This module introduces students to the principles and practice of
business communication. Students will learn how communication works,
what can affect it, and how to interpret the way people communicate
verbally and non-verbally.
They will also practise key workplace communication skills, including
professional writing, small group communication, interview preparation,
business presentations and communication within organisations.
The module is designed to help students build the confidence and
practical skills needed to communicate effectively in business and
workplace contexts.
By the end of this module, students will be able to:
- Understand and explain communication, its importance, the communication process and the factors that impact it.
- Understand interpersonal communication elements and the impact of verbal and non-verbal communication factors.
- Master written communication skills, including e-mails, CVs and communication with an organisation’s customers.
- Describe factors that influence small group dynamics, including types of groups, group formation, communication styles, leadership and conflict.
- Analyse processes, motivation, and internal and external communication in organisations.
- Understand the factors that influence job interviews, and how to prepare for and participate in an interview.
- Develop business presentation knowledge and skills.
- Master the skills needed to deliver a presentation using technology such as video and PowerPoint.
This is a fundamental module in the Higher Certificate in Business
Administration. It gives students foundational knowledge and helps
them develop important business-related skills and competencies
required within the qualification.
By focusing on communication, professional writing, interviews,
presentations and organisational communication, the module supports
students in building the theoretical understanding and practical
application needed for further learning and effective participation in the
business environment.
