ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

This is an entry level qualification designed to teach you the skills and knowledge you need to plan, facilitate and evaluate a range of activities and interventions that nurture and optimise the holistic development, growth and wellbeing of children from birth to age 5.

Who Should Enroll For This Programme?

Individuals who:

  • Have a passion for working with young children.
  • Are already employed as ECD Practitioners, but do not have appropriate qualifications.
  • Wish to work in an ECD centre as a teaching assistant/ practitioner.
  • Are considering au pair work.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • A grade 12/ NSC is preferred.
  • Preferably an NCV (National Certificate Vocational) at NQF Level 3 OR any other NQF Level 3 qualification
  • Grade 11 (an additional module of foundational competency will be required but can be done along with the certificate)
  • A valid (no older than 3-months) police clearance certificate

  • Child Development and Active learning
  • Programme development
  • Observation and assessment
  • Promoting health, safety and well-being of children
  • Administrating ECD services and programmes
  • Qualification also has a practical and work experience components to apply the knowledge gained

Study Options

Full-time – half of year on campus and half of year experiential learning

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Students will be required to work with young children of various ages and apply their skills and knowledge. The work experience modules will be completed at assigned dates during the year.

  • Teacher’s Assistant/ Practitioner
  • On completion of the qualification students can go on to a Higher Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education to qualify as a teacher.
